Twitter Tuesday: The Stan Lee Three

August 10th, 2010 | by Joshua Jericho
Posted In: Blog

Everyone knows the great Stan Lee.  Even if you don’t know it, you know Stan Lee.  Maybe you know him cause he created like half of the Marvel superheroes including Spider-man, Ironman, Hulk, Daredevil, Thor, the Fantastic Four and the original X-Men.   Maybe you know him because you saw his cameos in any of the movies starring the before mentioned Marvel Superheroes.  Maybe you know him in OTHER movies like Mallrats and Princess Diaries 2, or TV shows like Big Bang Theory or History Channel’s Superhuman, or even on cartoons such as The Simpsons and Muppet Babies.  Maybe you just know him cause he’s a living geek icon.

No matter the reason, you know Stan Lee and now you can follow him on Twitter.  Life is great isn’t it?

But, what if the real Stan Lee just isn’t enough Stan Lee for you?  Well, good news True Believers, cause now there’s also a Fake Stan Lee you can follow.

Now, to clarify, the Fake Stan Lee isn’t completely fake – there’s a real person you can follow.  He’s even got a website with videos and information about some of his appearances.  Including the recent visit to San Diego Comic Con where he met with the Real Stan Lee.  Check out the video below – it’s hilarious.

Now, obviously, Fake Stan Lee is just a character played by Kevin McShane, who happens to be artistic in many ways – all of which you can find on his website.  Still, if two Stan Lee’s aren’t enough people to follow you might as well add Kevin too.  Especially since he -is- one of the Stan Lee’s right.

Okay, three for one on Twitter Tuesday this week.  EXCELSIOR!!

Twitter Tuesday: Padma Lakshmi

Yesterday I revealed Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s new footlong cheeseburger and that got me thinking to one of the best commercial’s ever.  This commercial was so great that every time it came on I would stop whatever I was doing – even breathing – so I could savor every moment of it.  Just ask Rob, cause many a time I’d stop a conversation mid-word cause my brain immediately went to ‘the zone.’  Of course I’m talking about the Hardee’s commercial with Padma Lakshmi.

Just to clarify:  yes, I’m a guy and she’s hot and that’s pretty much it.  Think less of me if you want, but I know why my sister and girlfriend go to see every Twilight movie.  Besides, for a Hardee’s commercial this one’s pretty tame, and that may be a large part of the reason it appealed to me so much.  Nothing wrong with a woman in a sundress eating a giant bacon cheeseburger.  Nothing at all.

Anyway, remembering Padma led me to check up on the next season of Top Chef which which just started a couple of weeks ago.  New season is called Top Chef D.C. and is on Bravo Wednesday nights at 9.  Padma Lakshmi returns as the host and that’s reason enough to watch – a role with got her an Emmy nomination in 2009.  If you like cooking challenge shows this is one of the better ones.

Oh, and if you were thinking she’s just a pretty face hosting a show about food you’ve fooled yourself cause she’s actually written two cookbooks – the first of which was awarded the Best First Book at the 1999 World Cookbook Awards in Versailles.  She also hosted a show on the Food Network called Padma’s Passport before joining Top Chef.

Plus  she was also in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, so you know she’s gotta have some geek cred too.  Just sayin’.

Twitter Tuesday: Dave Kellett

Dave at a Con getting his sketch on... sorta

Last weekend was the ever-impressive San Diego Comic Con, and if you don’t have the pleasure of following webcomic people who frequent such an awesome event then you won’t realize what your missing.  So, let me tell you what you’re missing.  Most of the time you’re missing inside jokes between creators, but there are also great pictures including the fan arts the creator is drawing.  There’ll also tell you about the panels and after parties so you get an idea of what’s going on and who’s having all the fun.

I’ve gone to one SDCC myself, and the event was amazing.  Every year after that I had to rely on blog posts that typically recapped the whole weekend days after it was over.  Now, thanks to Twitter, I’m able to feel in a small way like I’m still out there by following celebrities and webcomicers who actually ARE out there.  It’s actually pretty fun.

That said, I thought I’d suggest an artist for you this week, and though there are a lot of great people to follow I decided on Dave Kellett for a few reasons.  First, Dave is one of the first people I started following and one of the few I’ve never stopped following.  Since I follow Dave, I also know for a fact he really is one of the more entertaining follows – especially at cons.  Lots of pictures, jokes, sketches and such in his feed.

There is an alterieror motive I admit.  Just a few days before SDCC, Dave actually posted his 3000th Sheldon Comic!!  That’s a huge feet, and there aren’t a lot of comic people out there that have been doing such high-quality comics for so long.  Sheldon is one of the first webcomics I found, and it’s still one of the ones that can make me laugh almost every day.  After 3000 comics, that’s really impressive.

Plus, Dave’s started dipping his feet into Sci-Fi now with his new comic Drive which updates on Saturdays.   Both comics are great, and I fully recommend both to anyone who loves webcomics – which, hopefully all of you visiting this site do.  Love webcomics.

Anyway, jump over to Twitter and check out Dave’s awesome feed and then add him to your follow list.  You can thank me later.

Twitter Tuesday: Kristin Chenoweth

Going with yesterday’s review of Wicked I thought I’d focus this week’s Twitter Tuesday on one of the actresses who made the show such a success.  So, this week our focus will be on Kristin Chenoweth!

Kristin was the original Glinda the Good for Wicked when it was on Broadway.  Before that she won a Tony Award as Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.  She’s also done some television, having won an Emmy Award for her role as Olive Snook on the show Pushing Daisies, and also playing a role on West Wing and most recently the reoccurring April Rhodes on Glee.  Obviously to have won a Tony OR an Emmy would be great, but Kristin has proven her talent by winning both.

If that’s not enough, and really it should be but you know… just in case, Kristin has also done voice work for the new Tinkerbell movies and Robot Chicken, made a few Funny or Die videos, written her own memoir, starred in the made for TV movie The Music Man with Matthew Broderick, has appeared three different times as a part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, been a guest judge for American Idol, toured with international pop sensation Il Divo, and done a few small movies like Bewitched, Stranger Than Fiction, and Four Christmases.

Oh, and then there’s her music!  Three of her own albums with a fourth slated for later this year.  If you’ve heard the soundtrack to Wicked or seen her episodes on Glee then you know she’s got talent, but if you don’t let me point out that she’s classically trained with a range of four octaves.  That’s a lot of octaves.  It’s actually a shame that Twitter is a text program, cause if they could let you share singing I think most everyone would have put Kristin on their follow list by now.

Even without a vocal system on Twitter I highly recommend following Kristin because, lets face it, the woman is a star in every sense of the word!  Stage, film, musical, written word, national tours, and on and on.  The bottom line:  she’s Popular.

Twitter Tuesday: Olivia Munn

Rolling on the theme of E3 this week our Twitter Tuesday is all about Olivia Munn who was alongside her fellow G4 hosts/celebs giving the full rundown of all things gaming at the big event last week.  Olivia is one of the co-hosts of G4’s Attack of the Show and she’s a regular at their coverage of both E3 and San Diego Comic Con.  Plus, Olivia is pretty cool with her fans and very active on her fansite and twitter account – meaning lots of cool behind the scenes photos and videoblogs and such.

Now, being a host of a cool geek-trendy show is probably enough to get some loving on Twitter – but Olivia has been on a roll of awesome lately.  She made a cameo in the summer blockbuster IronMan 2 as the reporter introducing Hammer’s presentation at the Stark Expo.  She’s currently the poster girl for PETA’s fight against the use of elephants in the circus, and Maxim recently placed her at number 8 on the 2010 Hot 100 list.  (Go go crazy unnecessary lists to quantify attractiveness!)  That’s a jump from 96 to 8 in one year – and you know a large portion of that is cause Olivia is on a hot streak.  (Puns are fun.)

Still, all that isn’t enough awesome for Olivia lately as she’s also taken a job as a journalist on the wildly popularly and vastly imaginative Daily Show as their Senior Asian Correspondent.  As if that weren’t exciting enough she’s also going to be staring in a new NBC sitcom coming out this fall called Perfect Couples.

Now all that is awesome, but what really defines Olivia Munn to me more then anything else is her role on a music video by Parry Gripp called “The Girl at the Video Game Store” where Olivia shows off her wildly alluring mix of nerd and hottie that is so rare yet so very, very enthralling.  Also, the song is really very catchy and worth a grab off iTunes.

So, roll your tongue back and pick your jaw up off the floor and then take a moment to tag a follow on Olivia.  You’ll thank me later.

Twitter Tuesday: Cory Monteith

Tonight is the season finale of one of my favorite shows.  Maybe ever.  Of course I speak of GLEE.  (Which ironically enough is rarely happy.  Odd that.)  So, naturally, I thought it’s only fitting to have a member of the cast as the focus of this weeks Twitter Tuesday.

Cast of Monte Carlo

The Cast of Monte Carlo filiming in Europe (pic from Cory's Twitter Feed)

Now, if you don’t know almost the entire cast is on Twitter, including some of the regular guest stars.  That gave me a LOT of choices for who to highlight.  So, do I pick the best voice?  Maybe the person who uses Jericho as the stage name for their music career (bonus points for the awesome!)  How about the actress playing the character with the most interesting story this season?

Nah.

This is Twitter, and so the easy choice was ‘who is doing cool stuff and talking the most about it?’  That made it easy.  Right now, everything points to Cory Monteith – aka Finn.  Dude is Europe right now, recording a new movie with Katie Cassidy (Nightmare on Elm Street) and Selena Gomez (everything on Disney).   Not only is he Tweeting a few times a day, he’s loading us with sweet behind the scenes pics.  It’s like having a backstage passport!

So, while you’re watching GLEE tonight (don’t lie, you watch it – we all do) take a moment to add Cory Monteith (frankenteen) to your Follow List.

Twitter Tuesday: Kevin Butler

Hey, Blue Crew, we’re gonna start a new weekly feature here for those of you who are fans of Twitter.  Each week on Tuesday I’ll point you to a new person on Twitter that I recommend following and a little info on why.  Could be another comic artist, might be a musician, maybe an informational feed.

This week it’s the voice for Sony Playstation.  Or at least in their ads.  The Kevin Butler.

From his own feed’s profile:   ”As VP at PlayStation, I’m a man of the people. And the people need help. Stubborn spouse? Divided family? PS3 deprived? Rest easy. Kevin’s here.”   Kevin’s done great work in counseling those who fight over the controller, or don’t understand how awesome God of War 3 really is, or maybe they just need a little motivation to live up to their true potential as seen in his most recent work:

Every single day we all need a little inspiration, a little understanding, and a strong reminder that gaming isn’t just fantastic it’s everything.  Now, thanks to Kevin’s Twitter feed, we can all remember.  Remember it hard.
