Since its mouth is moving, I would assume that it indicates an English translation of whatever language it is speaking. After all, if it is an alien, it would be presumptuous to assume it speaks English. (Though, that would be consistent with Star Trek TOS.
Yep yep! It means it’s translated into English. I’ve seen those brackets used for that purpose in manga and other comics a lot so I just sorta assumed it was a standard practice. Sorry for the confusion!

So do greaterthan lessthans indicate spacepirateese, or are we reading Animorphs and it indicates THOUGHTSPEAK?
